Lynne Sherriff completed Hotel training at the Arthur's Seat Hotel in Cape Town, and then completed a Diploma in Cellar Technology at Elsenburg College (Stellenbosch) in 1978. After practical training at the Nederburg Wine Estate in Paarl, SA Lynne completed a German state qualification at Weinsburg Estate Institute close to Heilbronn in Oenology and Viticulture. In 1988 Lynne passed the Cape Wine Master examinations and in 1993 passed the Master of Wine examnination in London. Her research project for Cape Wine Master was titled Cabernet Sauvignon today and into the 1990s.
Lynne grew up in the hotel trade in South Africa and then worked at Stellenbosch Farmers Winery and Nederburg in all facets of production, wine buying, marketing and export. In 1985 she spent nine months on a French Government sponsored bursary to study the wine regions of France. between 1990 and 1991she headed up the Hong Kong International Wine and Spirits Academy training trade and consumers in the British Wine and Spirit Education Trust Wine Courses. In 1991 Lynne became Commercial Manager, then Commercial Director of Vinfruco, finally exporting 1m cases of South African wine into Europe. Since 2000, Lynne has been an independent wine consultant based in London.
