Meryl, qualified and practised as a conveyancer and lectured at the Rhodes University law school.
When she moved to the Cape, she decided to give up her law career and focus on wine, something she had always enjoyed.

She has completed all the Cape Wine Academy courses and has also lectured at all levels for the CWA. CWM in 2007 and her research project was on "The emergence of cooler wine regions in SA ".

Apart from qualifying as a registered SATOUR guide in 1998/9, she worked for the John Platter wine guide from 2001 and continues to do so. Initially employed as wine coordinator and writer, she has been an official taster since 2006.

She also runs a small wine edutainment business ‘Window on Cape Wine’ conducting tours and corporate entertainment functions. She has conducted presentations and tours for foreign journalists, sommeliers and wine educationalists for Wines of South Africa (WOSA) since 1999.

Wearing her wine and travel caps, she represented SA Tourism and the Winelands in presenting South African wine to Indian delegates at the international tourism conference in Goa India August 2006.

As a member of six active winetasting groups, she has travelled and done wine tours of New Zealand, Canada, the Loire and Champagne.

She lives in Jonkershoek, Stellenbosch.
