2006 News

Institute Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting of the Institute was held at the Devon Valley Hotel in Stellenbosch on 6 May 2006.

It was attended by 22 members and 9 members nominated proxy representatives. The members enjoyed Taittinger Brut for the duration of the meeting.

Reports were made by the National Chairman (Margaret Fry), National Treasurer (Dick Davidson),
Northern Branch Chairman (Junel Vermeulen) and Marketing Committee (Jenny Radcliffe). The Cape Wine Academy and Education Committee (Marilyn Cooper) also reported on activities over the past year and the status of the Cape Wine Master programme.

Office bearers were elected for the 2006/2007 year. These were Margaret Fry (National Chairman), Bennie Howard (National Vice-Chairman), Margie Fallon (National Treasurer) and Elsie Pells (National Secretary). The Northern branch Junel Vermeulen to the post of Northern Branch Chairman and she took up the position of Northern Branch representative.

The Education and Admissions committee was elected and comprises Cornel Spies, Jeff Grier, Marilyn Cooper, Clive Torr, Caroline Snyman, Christine Rudman and Bennie Howard.

Jenny Ratcliffe, Bennie Howard, Karen Green and Brad Gold were elected to form the Marketing Committee.

Membership fees remain at last year's level.


The date of the next annual general meering will be 5 May 2007.

The lunch for the inauguration of new CWMs will be held on Friday 4 May 2007.
